Add Link to document

  • ability to add a link to a document in a task. Since most apps don't allow embedding documents, linking documents (from Dropbox or Devonthink) can be very time efficient.

This feature has been shipped :)

At first it will be shown in form of raw link but if we have resource, We will look into showing pagename for the link (Also look into this when we are doing mark down)

Just saw this. Looks okay so far. I guess you will need a lot more resource, since you’ll need Google/Jira authorization to show links from these sites.

It’s good you can see a link as an “attachment” of sorts where you can quickly copy it:

But I guess it would be helpful if I was able to see more than one link in that list:

Hi @Ian Corvin! Always thanks for your input.

I have one question and one info sharing.

        1. I did not fully get this - “you’ll need Google/Jira authorization to show links from these sites” - would this refer regarding showing page name instead of showing raw links?

        2. Having only 1 link are per task of kind of intentional. That area is more like ‘which link would you like to open with shorcut “O”. Our hypothesis behind this was below

        1) User should be easy to open a link related with task using shortcut “O”. (even without opening task card)

        2) It should be clear what user will be opening from the task card.

        3) If user has more than one link they can input other links as many as possible in the description.

But if you have any backup ideas why user should be able input multiple links in the link section feel free to tell us:)

          Dan,

          1. Yes, something like that.
Say, I have a Jira ticket link like https://xxx.atlassian.net/browse/XX-2589. When I insert it to services that we have integrated with Jira like Google Docs or Trello, it shows the beautified page title:

          2. I see the thought process behind this. It makes perfect sense to be able to quickly open any related link.

I can think of one use case off the top of my head when I would personally need to have more than one link:

Link to a corresponding Jira task + Link to a doc (or multiple docs) on this feature. We often write out the tech specs / functional requirements outside Jira, in Google Docs, since Jira’s description field is character-limited, and we may have very lengthy stuff.
Besides docs, there may be links to Figma designs, for example.
I understand that I can link to Jira ticket, from which I can (hopefully) navigate to other resources, but still…

Maybe you could support more than one link, but make the first one in the list be the main one that opens with O. 🤔

Oh this makes sense. Will create this as our ticket.
            (Again no time promising…)

It seems like we are having latency issue outside korea and we will be focuing our 100% to make product faster for a while.

I agree. I’ve come from the similar place when proposing Markdown formatting — one of the things I wanted is the ability to put a link to a document from G Drive or Jira.

So to bump this, yes, I think a dedicated field'/button that would allow quickly dropping a file/link to a file which will display as a chip would be cool.

And — oh — you sohuld be able to attach more than one file.

Can this not already be done in the description field?

Could be, but thinking about both way!
If we have link field users will be able to open link with ‘O’ short cut without opening the task detail.

Gotcha, understood. I can see after time the few seconds it saves can add up!
