Integration with Toggl

When I start the focus timer for a task in offlight, I want it to start a timer in my Toggl account as well, so that I can have my time tracking in a single place.

RIght now I have to manually start the Toggl timer, and that’s not cool.

@Ian Corvin Thank you for the comment.
When we made time tracking feature. We actually aimed for users to track time on OFFLIGHT.

But since you want integration, I guess we have missed something.

May I ask why you want to keep your tracking in a single place? ( Which other tools do you also you to integrate with track Toggl?)

That’s the correct approach to this question.

I can see myself tracking my time in Offlight only in the future. But right now, it falls short to the Toggl functionality, and especially the reporting/analytics features, which is the main reason I use Toggl, not the tracking feature itself — it’s only part of the puzzle.

So, say there are use cases:

      • I want to analyze how much time I’ve spent on things in the last half a year. So in Toggl, I can open up a report, group things by various parameters (by project, by tags, etc.) and see my itme distribution (and see that I’ve spent 1/3 of my time on work calls 🤣).

      • I want to recall what I’ve been working on during the particular days. This is specifically helpful when logging my time to Jira, becuase during the actual workdays I’m sometimes so tired I have no strength to fill out the daily time log report, so I do that at the end of the month.

I don’t see anything like that in Offlight. And honestly, I think if you start going this way right now, you might spread yourself too thin and lose focus. So I guess integration would be a much easier solution at the moment.

Ian, you seem like a ideal customer profile we want hit, when we started this business.

When we started building time-tracker, yes we were (and still is) dreaming of a dashboard. (At least starting with your daily summary from yesterday) and showing today’s summary.

But you are correct about going wide spread will for sure kill us.

I can’t gurantee about the integration, but will start look into if there is api with toggl. (If only integration is putting on toggle design button on our service, that will be a no-go for us.)

        ——-

By the way, I did not fully understand the point you wanted to make

“I want to recall what I’ve been working on during the particular days. This is specifically helpful when logging my time to Jira, becuase during the actual workdays I’m sometimes so tired I have no strength to fill out the daily time log report, so I do that at the end of the month.”

If I understood right, are you using track toggle to logging tour time to Jira at the end of the month? (I am asking because I think I missed something)

Let me elaborate, I might have been a little too confusing.

          • It’s required of us to log how much time we worked during the day to Jira at the end of day, providing a short description / list of things we were doing during the day. That’s useful for our HR/accounting to see whether we meet 40 hours a week or no.

          • I don’t always have the necessary 15+ minutes at the end of day to do so, or I am too tired and I want to “close the day” as fast as possible, simply closing the work browser profile 🙂

          • Before Toggl, it was also hard to recall what I’ve been doing during the day, because often I do too many things.

          Now with Toggl:

          • Whenever I start doing anything, I just run the timer, since Toggl is always at hand.

          • That way, at the end of day:

            • I have a list of things I did

            • PLUS the amount of time I’ve spent doing those things.

          • So even if I didn’t log anything to Jira during the whole week or month (which sometimes happens), I can easily “retrace” my steps and see what I’ve been doing at a particular day by looking at my Toggl feed.

          Does that make sense?

Now I understand what you mean.

Just out of curiosity. How to you log your time spent on Jira?
Is it bullet point? or update manually on each ticket?

And Yes! I would love to have an interview with you. :)

Sorry for such a late reply. Replaying newest chatting and newest feature request got my operation cycle jammed up. From now on I will answer from the oldest.

I’ve mentioned about the interview in one of the other threads, but I got the link, so I’ll book something shortly. Times look OK, your latest is my ~late morning, so it works.

              As for your question:

We have a separate project for time tracking (since it’s not always possible to attribute work hours to particular tasks, and sometimes there are no tasks for the work done). Each employee has a single “time tracking” task per month.

We log our work at the end of each day (not mandatory, sometimes I do this in bulk at the end of the month…) — i.e., literally click “Log work” button, enter the number of hours worked, and describe a list of things I did during the day — and yes, it’s a simple bullet list. When you log time in Jira, there’s a description field. So I copy-paste my Toggl entries one by one…
